Healthy skinned woman eating a banannaEveryone goes through life having to deal with situations and circumstances they would prefer not to, after all, it’s called life, and we all know life happens. One of the irritants that fits that bill is acne. Acne is something that we would all rather not have to deal with. It is humbling and can be very stressful. We are all aware of teenagers going through puberty and the bodily changes that accompany growing up, and we cut them slack. But for how many does acne last beyond those teenage years, or creeps up on us later in life?

Acne in and of itself may not really be a disease. Rather it could just be a warning our body is putting in front of us trying to tell us something is wrong or something needs to change. While there are a number ways of dealing with acne, the best might be to listen to what our body is telling us. What is going on inside our body that needs to be repaired? Are we chemically out of balance? Do we need to change the food we are eating, or the social circles we are traveling in? What is going on that is causing our body to break out with acne?

The best and surest remedy for acne is to treat it from the inside out. All the creams, lotions, and things to rub on our body are pretty much just putting a band aid on the real issue. They may provide a short term fix, but the real issue is still there. It is underneath the skin, and if we don’t get to the root of the issue it will come back stronger and perhaps in a different form.

Keep in mind that acne seems to come at us when we are going through bodily changes, or stressful situations. That means there is chemistry going on in our body which is different than it was a few weeks or months ago. This chemistry does build up over time and is not an overnight event. If you want to get to the root of the issue, consider what you are putting into your body and into your mind.

It is a good time to consider supplements, since your body needs to be brought back into balance from the inside out. (As with any medication or change to your health, please consult with your health care practitioner).  The first supplement to consider is Vitamin C. Everyone should take Vitamin C whether they have acne or not. Since it is one of the strongest natural antioxidants it helps eliminate the free radicals which cause damage to our cells.

A second item to consider is green tea. This tea has been used in the Orient for thousands of years, and is still used there today for its healing properties. It also is a very strong antioxidant. Green tea also helps keep our body clean from the inside out. While in China on a business trip some years ago it was evident that the Chinese people have a very high respect for green tea, drinking it constantly.

Along with these supplements also drink plenty of good fresh water, get a lot of rest and eat healthy food. Eating more if not all raw foods will also help with providing a clean, healthy glow to your skin. There are many other possible ways to eliminate acne from your system. Please do a little research to find out what might work the best for you.

Herbs for natural skinEvery ailment, illness or disease has a remedy associated with it, or a remedy being developed to cure it. Acne is no different. Everyone is unique and so the reasons people get acne vary from one person to another.  There are many different things people do to heal acne. Some are based on prescriptions, some based on old wives tales, and some based on natural remedies. These days there is a big debate between the natural methods and the now traditional practices.

One thing to keep in mind is that the natural remedies have been around for centuries, they typically come from plants, herbs and other natural sources. While I believe our current medical practices have their place and are very appropriate under certain circumstances, I also believe for some aliments the natural remedies are the best. It is also worth considering that the pharmaceutical products often carry side effects with them, and no one really wants the side effects. Sometimes the side effect can be worse than the ailment it is trying to cure.

If you can be open to consider the natural approach then you will be happy to learn that there are certain herbs which can give you back clear skin. In some cases they can even completely eliminate your acne. Some herbs have been part of health treatments for thousands of years, not only for acne, but also for other health related issues. It is interesting that something as simple as a herb can treat an ailment, while pharmaceutical companies spend millions of dollars coming up with a product with ingredients we cannot pronounce, and which has nothing natural in it at all.

So if you are experiencing any issues with acne, here are four herbs for you to consider using. These herbs will help your body balance itself and provide you improved health:

  1. Lavender – As well as being a great smelling herb, it also helps to reduce inflammation and has some antiseptic properties which can go a long way in helping you with your acne.  If you love the smell of lavender, you should try using this on your problem skin as well.
  2. Sandalwood – The bark of the Sandalwood tree is where this herb can be found. There are many people who consider it to be a great aromatherapy remedy.  When you spread the sandalwood on your skin, you will be helping heal the skin as well as giving it a healthy glow.
  3. Tea Tree Oil – Probably the best known natural remedy used for acne. It works exceptionally well because of its antibacterial properties.  One thing to keep in mind is to dilute it before applying it directly to the skin.
  4. Basil – While it has been used for a number of different reasons the most important is that it can kill the bacteria which may be the root cause of your acne.  It also helps clean the blood that may carry these bacteria.  Basil in the form of tea has been used for many years in order to heal such issues.  It is also worth noting that the soil where basil grows becomes pure enough to be used in healing baths.

So there you have four of the better herbs to consider using in your battle with acne. There are also other herbs as well, such as: Aloe Gel, Burdock Root, Calendula, Dandelion, Echinacea, Golden Seal, Milk Thistle, Rosewater, Walnut Leaf, and Witch Hazel.

Also consider that your body developed acne for a reason. Your body is trying to tell you that something is out of whack. The use of these herbs will help, but you may want to look into what else is going on inside your body or in your life to better understand why you got the acne in the first place.

Here’s to getting the healthy results you are looking for.

Healthy woman eating a raw salad

Acne is uncomfortable and fortunately not life threatening, but it isn’t anything we want to deal with. When we are young it occurs during puberty. When we are older, it seems to crop up when we undergo some life changing event, or during times of chronic stress. It seems that acne happens at times when our bodies are going through some internal changes or external pressures.

Our body chemistry is very complex. Everyone is different and so an exact remedy will not fit everyone. However there are some clues we should consider and see how they apply to us. Frequently, acne develops during puberty (as if we don’t already have enough to contend with). We have screaming hormones going wild, social challenges at home and  school, self doubt about who we are, and then acne hits us when we are already reeling under the weight of all the other challenges.

One key factor to be aware of is that acne does not occur over night. Outbreaks take time to manifest. By that I mean there are some bodily changes, or external stresses going on in our lives which trigger acne. When we look those bodily changes or stresses, we may discover that there are noticeable changes that we may have either ignored or misinterpreted. It is very possible that such changes intersecting one time may be the reason acne presents itself.

One of the first questions a doctor will typically ask someone during a visit is – what have you done differently? Looking at what may have changed in our life in the past days, weeks or even months could give a clue to why our body is reacting in such a way. There are those who do not believe acne is an illness or disease at all. There is a school of thought that believes it is strictly our body reacting to either the food we eat, the stress we are experiencing, or some other external influencing factor.

You should do a personal inventory to see what may have changed in your life and make note of it. One of the simple things that could have changed is your eating habits. Maybe you found some new friends and got introduced to salsa, or some spicy food. At the same time the social stress of fitting in with the new crowd, or the stress at work has added to the chemistry going on in your body. Result:  acne.

One of the speculations about what causes acne is that it has to do with the body secreting chemicals to deal with something ‘new’ happening. It is also possible that your body has been building up the toxins for some time and now just happened to be the time it came out. No one knows absolutely for sure why it happens, or why it happens when it does.

One of the quickest ways to clear out skin is by getting rid of all the junk food you eat. This means anything that includes the ‘whites’:  flour, sugar and rice. To jump start the process it would be best to go on a completely raw food diet. While this may be difficult to contemplate, it is a possible remedy to what is going on in your body.

The bottom line is eating raw food is good for your body, and your health. I recently read a study where 8 people were secluded for 30 days, put on raw food only diet and made amazing improvements in their diabetes care regimen, to the point several no longer needed insulin.

From studies done it is pretty clear that a raw food diet will clean your body from the inside out. It will give you an inner glow. It will also help your overall health and well being, increase your energy, and increase your longevity.

So there you have it. The choice is up to you.  Again please remember that the acne did not occur over night, and based on your lifestyle and habits it may take a little while to clear it up. Everyone is different, and while some have seen quick results, for others it may take a little time. Just know that it can happen for you.
